Adia Sowho has exited her role as Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Nigeria, concluding a three-year tenure that began in August 2021.
As the company’s chief marketing strategist, Sowho was pivotal in advancing MTN’s ambition to become a full-fledged technology company by 2025.
According to sources within the firm, her departure is by mutual consent.
Ugonwa Nwoye, the current Chief Customer Relations Officer, will serve as the acting Chief Marketing Officer, sources said.
Sowho’s extensive career in telecommunications began in 2001 as a Radio Frequency Engineer at the US Cellular Corporation in the United States. She returned to Nigeria in 2010 to join 9mobile (formerly Etisalat), where she held various positions, including Head of Strategy and Business Development, Head of Digital Media, and Director of Digital Business.
After leaving 9mobile in 2018, Sowho served as Managing Director and Vice President of Growth at Migo. She also briefly served as the interim Chief Executive Officer of agritech startup ThriveAgric around 2020, successfully guiding the company through financial challenges and back to stability.
