Nigerian Super Falcons star, Jennifer Onyi Echegini has been named the Most Valuable Player in Women’s Serie A Under 23 division.
The 23-year-old Juventus midfielder who arrived in Turin last January quickly adapted to her new team and position, contributing 10 goals and an assist in just 16 appearances.
Echegini started her youth career at Arsenal and had brief stints with two clubs in the United States before joining Juventus.
Born in the Netherlands and raised in London, England, Echegini decided to represent her Nigeria in international football.
“Jennifer Onyi Echegini has a decisive impact on the reality of Juventus Women. Having arrived in Turin last January directly from the United States, the midfielder born in 2001 took very little time to settle into the new reality, scoring 10 goals and 1 assist in 16 appearances.
“Numbers that have earned her, in just a few months, the title of eBay MVP as the best Under 23 in the women’s Serie A in the season just ended, evidenced by a dedicated commemorative plaque that will be delivered at the beginning of next season,” read the Monday statement announcing her achievement.
The eBay MVP award celebrates the league’s rising stars, highlighting their contributions to their teams and the competition as a whole.
Beyond the Serie A, Echegini was part of the Nigeria women’s team that reached the Round of 16 in the 2023 FIFA Women World Cup, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
