Abdul Ningi, the lawmaker representing Bauchi South, who was suspended over budget padding claims resumed at the Senate on Tuesday.
The Senate last week recalled Ningi, ending his three-month suspension that began on Tuesday 12th March 2024,
The lawmaker was suspended following a media interview he granted the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Hausa Service on March 9, 2024.
Ningi, while granting the interview alleged that about 3.7 trillion Naira representing over 10% of the 2024 budget was illegally inserted into the 2024 National Budget.
The Senate’s decision to recall Ningi last week Tuesday was a sequel to a motion for “the unconditional recall of Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi” sponsored by Abba Morro, the Senate minority leader, and co-sponsored by Olalere Oyewumi, Senator representing Osun West and Osita Ngwu, the Senator representing Enugu west.
Morro noted that Ninigi has spent over two months outside the precincts of the National Assembly Complex and needs to return to continue with his legislative activities as the Senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District;
He said the Senate Minority Leadership takes full responsibility for the actions of Ningi and apologizes on his behalf.
